There are good fats and bad fats. The good ones are essential for your body, meaning you won't remain healthy without them. The bad fats are nothing you need. They convert easily to body fat and they do nothing to promote longevity.

The two most important kinds of fat are omega 3 and omega 6. The human body can manufacture all other fatty acids, except for omega 3 and omega 6 and that's the reason they are very important.

So, where do you get your omega 6 and omega 3?

Omega 3 is found most abundantly in fish and Flax oil. Omega 6 you find in canola oil, olive oil, nuts and seeds and in the dietary supplement CLA.

Everybody knows fast food is laden with bad fat and the worst ones are called trans fatty acids. These nasty things you find in almost every food item that is not fresh. They can give you cancer as well as they store easily as body fat. A lot of protein bars have great amounts of trans fats. There they are listed as partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.

It's as easy as this: when you take in too little dietary fat, your body holds on to your fat deposits. When you take in too much calories as well as too much fat, you're bodyweight increases.
