Finding the right width bars is very important. Do not get talked into doing dips on wide bars to work your outer chest etc. this can result in shoulder injuries. We want our dips to work the whole upper body so the best is a medium to narrow grip.
Do not keep your body straight when dipping, lean your chest forward and bend at the knees. This will bring the most muscle groups into play and result in the greatest results.
Always do a lot of warming up before starting dips. If I'm training in the gym I will do lighter sets of bench press, some body weight dips and 5 minutes on the rowing machine to really get loose before I start using extra weight.
Lower slowly to the bottom position and then explode up while breathing out forcefully.
