Detoxification and Cleansing Programs
The liver plays a major role in the detoxification process in your body. It is a normal process that occurs every day of your life - although the efficiency of this depends on all the factors previously discussed. Naturopaths and other natural health practitioners One role of the liver is to process and eliminate toxins that are delivered via the bloodstream (the liver filters up to two litres of blood per minute). Enzymes in the liver change the structure of toxic molecules, helping to reduce their toxicity and making them more water soluble. This is called Phase I detoxification fat soluble toxins are converted into water soluble ones, making them easier to excrete. In Phase II detoxification, enzymes attach the partially processed toxins to other molecules that assist in the toxins' elimination by making them even more water soluble and less toxic. The processed toxins are either directed to the kidneys to be excreted with the urine, or are added to bile in the gall bladder to end...
By eating a diet of 100 raw plant foods, you will automatically detoxify and heal disease conditions. To accelerate detoxification and healing, we remove fat from the diet. Juicing and blending foods saves the body digestive energy channeling more energy for healing and detoxification. Dr. Norman Walker recommended a sugar food (carrot, beet, apples) and green-leafed vegetables in nearly all of his curative juice recipes. He did not quite understand the problems with hybrid foods (foods were not as hybridized in his day as they are now), but he did understand the power of juice fasting He understood the detoxification power of chlorophyll foods and natural sugar foods with no fatty foods included.
The major diseases and illnesses are diet related. Detoxification through a raw plant-food diet is the physical path back to perfect health. If diet is ignored, the maximum benefit of other therapies will not be achieved. There is no magic pill, but there is a magic process. For you, detoxification can be the greatest event of your life. As you become more aware of your body's true condition, you will intuitively be presented with intelligent plans, renewed strength, and energy with which to retrace the steps back to physical perfection. You will be healed naturally through detoxification. Stage III Detoxification Obstructions move from areas of greater concentration to areas of lesser concentration. Stage III Detoxification Obstructions move from areas of greater concentration to areas of lesser concentration. The Detoxification Pressure Gradie The process of detoxification is non-linear. It travels in circles and waves and heals you in cycles according to Hering's Law. Depending on...
We always start our new year with a detox - it helps us to feel revived after the manic festive time where we all tend to eat, and perhaps drink, a little more than usual. It is an excellent way to enter a new year (and the ideal way to shed those festive kilos). Consider starting your detox on a weekend where you have little planned. This way, if you do experience any discomfort such as the odd headache or fatigue, you can take it easy and even have a little nap if needed. Try to have few, if any, parties or other 'tricky' social events during the weeks you plan to detox. Catered large functions can be difficult because you can't control what food is served. If any social events arise during your detox time, make sure you let your hosts know what foods you can't eat. In the case of catered parties, we suggest you have a good snack before you go in case the food isn't quite suitable. If you are dining out, it's quite easy to find items on most menus that are within the guidelines. See...
The whole process of detoxification consists of removing these obstructions from the lymph fluid (intercellular fluid) and washing them out of the body. As your body is lightened of obstructions, your health will rise accordingly. The average person has approximately 1.2 gallons (4.5 liters) of blood. But each person has four times as much lymph fluid as blood. Your lymph fluid bathes every cell. Because the blood feeds and draws waste from the lymph fluid directly, the process of detoxification begins as soon as the blood is thinner than the lymph fluid, allowing trapped toxicity in the lymph to diffuse back into the blood to be detoxified. The principle of diffusion states that things move from areas of greater concentration to areas of lesser concentration. As the lymph unburdens itself of undigested proteins, toxins, chemicals, and other undesirables, the substances flow into the blood. Instantly a poison may be all over the circulatory system before it is filtered out as waste....
If you have ever looked at the labels on processed foods, drinks, or soups you will see a long list of additives that resemble names seen only in a chemistry textbook, such things as allyl anthranilate and benzyl dimethyl carbinyl butrate. Remember, most of these compounds are foreign to the human body and must be detoxified or metabolized in some way. According to Ruth Winters' book, A Consumer's Dictionary of Food Additives, there is no toxicity information available on 46 percent of the chemicals added to foods and only 5 percent have had complete toxicity evaluation. Some food labels look more like labels from organic chemistry laboratories than what you would expect to find attached to foods. Yet we consume these processed foods as if safety has been assured. It is also important to remember that the detoxification process depends on enzymes, mostly in the liver, but also within every cell, and that these enzymes must develop before birth. While much remains to be learned about...
The beetroot in this juice will help your liver play its role in detoxification. You can have this juice as part of breakfast, between meals or as a pre-dinner drink. You can add your extra fibre option to this juice if you like. If you suffer from gout, take the leaves off the celery.
To retain the benefits of your detox, very gradually re-introduce foods to your diet. After your first detox we suggest you keep a food diary for a fortnight or so to record reactions to foods or drinks. Begin by re-introducing single foods to your diet so that you can monitor any reactions. This is especially useful if you have been suffering with chronic symptoms or low energy - you may discover what was causing any niggling symptoms before you began your detox. In this case, try to limit the offending food or drink in your diet to minimise ongoing symptoms - you may be able to tolerate the food just once or twice per week. Try not to go immediately back to your usual way of eating and drinking. Continue having a fresh vegetable juice each day and have four to five alcohol free days for a couple of weeks or so. Treat your body kindly to keep the detox benefits going longer term. This will improve not only your physical, but also your emotional, wellbeing.
This is a great time to detox your mind while you detox your body. Consider doing a meditation course or listening to relaxation or meditation CDs or tapes during your detox (available from good book stores). The benefits of meditation are excellent - reduced blood pressure, improved sleep, better concentration, improved creativity and productivity, more motivation, less negative self-talk, and a more relaxed outlook. You could also spend time during your detox to reflect on your beliefs and attitudes. This is a good time to clear out those that don't serve you well and replace them with a fresh view. Ask yourself if you make choices based on fear or courage. If your choices are based on fear, you are most likely creating toxins in your body. When your choices are based on courage, your body naturally creates the hormones that help you to feel happy and uplifted. LIFESTYLE FACTORS TO AVOID Naturally, if you are about to do a detox program, you might have to reduce or avoid some of the...
We recommend that you gradually cut down your caffeine intake (tea, coffee, chocolate, cola, guarana drinks) over the week or so preceding your detox. This will help minimise caffeine withdrawal headaches in the first few days of your detox. You could also begin to increase the number of vegetables and legumes you eat to help your digestive system adjust to extra vegetable fibre. It's a great idea to let your family, friends and workmates know that you are starting a detox. This will help you socially - in fact, we find that most people are extremely interested to know what it involves and usually want to try it themselves, especially once they notice how sparky you look after a couple of weeks. If you are invited out it is best to warn your host you are not drinking alcohol and have a few dietary restrictions.
JAN PURSER is a naturopathic nutrition consultant, remedial therapist and meditation teacher. Jan's passion is teaching people how to become more balanced holistically through nutrition, diet, detoxification programs, counselling, meditation and natural therapies. Her busy clinic, Food, Body & Health, is based in Perth. Jan has worked in the food and food publishing industry for over 20 years and has been a practitioner since 1996. She is currently the contributing health editor to Australian Good Taste magazine and also writes for Weight Watchers magazine. Jan has written six books on health, food and meditation and her most recent books are Indian Home Cooking (with Ajoy Joshi) and Blender Drinks (with Dimitra Stais and Tracey Rutherford).
We are suggesting these two menus for a special occasion when you want to lash out and entertain. Go to town and have some fun in the kitchen. Your guests will love the clean fresh flavours and will never know you are detoxing. JAN Unfortunately, I have a sweet tooth and it's when I find myself craving sugary foods on a daily basis that I decide to detox to bring my body back into balance. I enjoy our dessert recipes whether detoxing or not because they rely on the natural sweetness of fruit with very little additional sweetening. If you have a sweet tooth, one of the hardest things to avoid during a detox is dessert. Sugar is definitely off the List when detoxing, however, it is still possible to enjoy naturally sweet foods made into delightful combinations. We recommend that you don't have a dessert as such each day, but save them for two to three times per week. Instead of a 'proper' dessert, have a lovely piece of fresh fruit with some natural soy yoghurt if you're looking for...
KATHY I love Tamari Nuts and have a handful after breakfast and about 4 pm most days, detoxing or not. I might have a piece of fruit after lunch. That's it really. I don't normally eat between meals, so why do it when I am detoxing During a detox you do need to eat quite a few raw or lightly cooked vegetables. Our Spice, Nut & Seed Dip (page 34) is perfect for dipping vegetables into as a snack during the day. Or you can serve the dip along with our other savoury snacks for pre-dinner nibbles. You also don't have to miss out when it comes to sweet snacks because we've included several for you to enjoy any time of day, and they are all designed to help keep your energy at its best. Like any snacks, don't overdo them. These recipes are excellent to have on hand if you have friends drop by or if you need to take something to a friend's place.
If you have to buy your lunch when detoxing, we suggest you look for a leafy tuna salad, rice with stir-fried vegetables and tofu, miso and sushi, rice noodles with chicken, lentil curry with rice, roast vegetables with fish or chicken, or ask for a container filled with salad ingredients from the sandwich bar (these won't have processed dressings on them) and a protein like salmon or chicken. Many of the dishes in this chapter also double as an entree if you are entertaining. Just because you are detoxing doesn't mean you can't enjoy socialising with family and friends.
If you want to eat lamb when you are detoxing, then we suggest that you only eat organic lamb that has been trimmed of all fat and have it just once a week. These gorgeous fritters are ideal served as a breakfast or brunch dish with grilled mushrooms and roasted tomatoes, or serve them with smoked salmon and a handful of baby salad leaves.
JAN Breakfast is an important meal for me and I like to eat a combination of protein and carbohydrates because I find that mixture takes me through the morning well. Eating out for breakfast is a favourite weekend treat for my partner Gavin and I, and I usually order poached eggs, mushrooms and spinach or bok choy when detoxing. I'll also ask for a fresh vegetable juice and drink peppermint tea instead of coffee or regular tea. If you suffer migraines, you might prefer to avoid dishes containing eggs as these may be a trigger for you. For all others, don't have more than 3 to 4 eggs per week during your detox.
A few years ago, you couldn't find decent duck in Australia, but now we have a regular supply of firm flavoursome birds. As duck is very fatty, you will need to trim the skin and fat off the breasts before you cook them. If you are not in detox mode and want to leave it on, score the skin and cook, skin side down, in a non-stick pan for about 2 minutes until the skin is crisp and browned, then roast as below.
We have both found that a four-week detox is a good length of time to achieve an excellent shift in wellbeing. Sometimes we detox for longer - six to eight weeks - and sometimes just for a week if we feel a bit sluggish and tired. If you are planning your first detox, then stick with the program for at least four weeks to reap longer term benefits. the detox program We list here all the foods that will help support detoxification and will provide your body with wonderful antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Some foods are common allergens and so we've put them on the list of foods to avoid. When these foods are ingested, they can add to the load on your liver and are best avoided during a detox for this reason. Some foods are okay in small amounts, but could be problematic in a larger quantity - we've listed these as the ones to limit. We have included a few foods that contain gluten in this list (rye, barley, spelt and oats), however, if you know that you are sensitive or allergic to...
Some nutrients and herbs assist your liver and digestive system to function at their best and in turn assist your body to detoxify. These are not compulsory but will improve the overall benefits. Antioxidant complex Antioxidants help prevent damage caused by free radicals in your body. The complex should contain nutrients such as vitamins C, E and A (or betacarotene) and B vitamins. A good supplement may also contain antioxidants such as grape seed extract, St Mary's thistle (milk thistle) and or selenium. Have 1 or 2 tablets per day with meals (check dosage on the label). Acidophilus and bifidus powder This will help ensure your digestive system is well stocked with 'friendly' bacteria to assist with optimum digestion. Take V2 teaspoon of powder two times per day, mixed into a glass of water (you can mix it with your fibre option) and drink just before meals. Liver formula This will help your liver function at its best, aiding detoxification and digestion. Agood formula may contain...
The chlorophyll in green vegetables is thought to help with the detoxification processes. In addition, chlorophyll is useful in treating smelly feet, bad breath and body odour. This is a light refreshing juice that makes you feel clean from the inside out. Add ice cubes if you like.
The result of all of this is an overloaded body that may not be able to keep up with the detoxification demands placed upon it. As the liver struggles to play its role in detoxification, some toxins recirculate through the body, essentially affecting most of the body systems by damaging cells and setting off inflammation which may eventually develop into chronic disease. When overload happens you are mostly likely to experience all kinds of niggly symptoms. Allergies, hayfever, hormonal imbalance, low energy, susceptibility to colds, fatigue, poor alcohol or caffeine tolerance, digestive disturbances and headaches are just a few initial complaints that may occur.
KATHY About ten years ago I was complaining to Jan, my dear friend and health guru, that I was feeling run down, exhausted, puffy and bloated. In effect, I was having a moan about the pitfalls of working with food and wine. Jan immediately came forth with a solution as I knew she would -I needed to go on a detox. I was horrified at the idea - no wine (she must be joking), no caffeine (help), no wheat (how would I live without my daily intake of sourdough ), no dairy, no sugar and so the list went on. What would I eat and drink My life as a foodie would be over Under much duress, I eventually embarked on my first detox. Week one was a shocker. Headaches, feeling deprived, grumpy - to be honest, I was not a nice person to be around. However, by week two my energy levels were rising, I was sleeping like a baby and without any effort had lost a few kilos. I had planned to detox for a month, but I was feeling so good that I kept going for two. Because I love food so much, I made a point of...
While detoxing seems like a trendy subject, it has been the core therapy for most complementary medicine practitioners for decades. Naturopaths often begin their patient's treatment with a thorough detox to help reduce chronic symptoms and to begin the healing process. Our detox program isn't a weight-loss 'diet', although if you follow our guidelines excess weight is bound to be shed without you even thinking about it. More importantly, it is a chance to give your body a rest from potential allergens and toxins so that it can regain balance, good health and vitality. Many people believe healthy food is boring, but you don't have to sacrifice wonderful food when you are detoxing. That's what this book is all about. As foodies, we are not prepared to give up great tasting meals to be healthy so we came up with our own dishes that remain within the detox guidelines. The results astound our loved ones and friends, who don't realise they are eating detox food until they are told. We want...
During the first few days of your detox you may have a headache or two due to caffeine withdrawal and from the actual detox process. It's also possible you may experience what seems like an unhappy digestive system for a few days until you settle into the detox. For this reason we strongly recommend you follow the advice under 'Extra fibre and supplements' (page 12) and 'Managing side effects' (page 9) to help reduce uncomfortable symptoms. Usually the first two to three days are the worst, then afterwards your energy will pick up and you'll begin to notice a difference in how you feel. As a general guide to reduce all symptoms, drink plenty of purified or spring water daily (see 'What to drink', page 11). During the first few days of detoxing, make sure you have time to rest if necessary. Following are some specific tips to managing a few possible symptoms.
If you already exercise regularly, keep up your routine, although you may like to slow down a little during the first few days of your detox. If you don't exercise regularly, the end of week one of your detox is a good time to start going for a daily walk. Exercise helps your body to function well and is extremely important for overall health and emotional wellbeing. Walking is the easiest of all exercise to manage and you could start with 15 minutes per day if you are unfit, gradually building up to 45 minutes of brisk walking per day. Include some hills as your fitness improves. Exercise aids digestive function, helps reduce constipation, reduces stress, helps with muscle tone, helps maintain a healthy weight and decreases cardiovascular disease risk. One of the benefits that is particularly helpful for detoxing is increased circulation - both blood circulation and lymphatic flow. This helps reduce fluid retention and encourages the lymphatic system to move toxins through the body...
KATHY The evening meal is my favourite, relaxing with my husband Peter, discussing the day over a plate of good food. It's never a chore to cook and when I am detoxing, I usually have so much more energy, I whip around the kitchen even faster. I eat a large variety of food over a week, including plenty of vegetables and leafy greens and lots of seafood. The only dish I really miss when I am detoxing is roast chicken (I can't bear to forego the crisp skin) but the Asian-style Poached Chicken (page 96) is so good it helps to fill the gap. If I go out to eat when I'm detoxing, I look for seafood on the menu. JAN My partner Gavin is as passionate about food as I am. We often cook our meals together (quite harmoniously) with one of us taking the role of 'head chef' while the other is 'kitchen hand'. We really enjoy sitting down at the table to enjoy the fruits of our labour together. Our meals are generally so healthy that doing a detox might mean foregoing that fabulous red or white wine,...
If you are tense or anxious much of the time due to busy work or family life, not to mention dealing with any emotional stress, your body will create toxins as by-products. Let's face it, life is demanding -how often can you say that you feel truly relaxed A little stress is good for you as it gives you the drive to achieve the things you like to achieve. However, it is when you don't have a good balance of drive versus relaxation that you can feel overwhelmed and run into problems. A detox is the first step to turn your health around. detox
We love a leafy salad, made with soft leaves that can go with just about anything. Lots of green leaves is our mantra when detoxing. You can vary the flavour of the dressing depending on what you are serving it with, and add other ingredients such as tomatoes, asparagus, cucumbers and toasted nuts and seeds.
I tend to focus on a person's behavioral habits. I look for chemical sensitivities, for example. One woman whom I have been treating for some time now becomes very depressed and even has auditory hallucinations. We were able to make the connection that these symptoms are actually precipitated by her being exposed to a department store area containing formaldehyde. Recently, she was able to improve her condition by using a detoxification program in which she took sauna baths and certain nutrients, such as niacin and vitamin C. It took several weeks of a couple of hours a day of saunas to detoxify some of the substances that were in her body, because she had a history as an adolescent of a fair amount of substance abuse, especially hallucinogenic drugs like LSD, as well as marijuana. Though she has improved considerably, she still has some chemical sensitivity.
We have known for a long time that people with powerful detoxification systems can tolerate exposures to many toxins that make people with weak detoxification systems very sick. We saw in the chapter on mercury poisoning that people with higher selenium and zinc levels were far less likely to suffer toxicity. Detoxification systems exist in most cells, but the body's major detoxification apparatus is the liver. Basically, it consists of two parts. The first part, called the phase I system or MFO system (mixed function oxidases), utilizes a p-450 enzyme system to alter normally lipid-soluble toxins to a water-soluble form that can be easily excreted in the urine. The phase II system uses various molecules, primarily glutathione, to bind these altered toxins so they can be safely excreted. This cleansing system depends on a good supply of detoxification chemicals, such as sulfur, glutathione, taurine, and selenium to successfully accomplish its task. Several plant flavonoids and...
Roger Williams, first pointed out the importance of biochemical individuality, and that we cannot use the hypothetical normal person to set nutritional guidelines and norms. In his many years of study, he demonstrated that we vary considerably in our ability to detoxify environmental toxins, metabolize our foods, and in our nutritional requirements. Only recently is it being appreciated that normal values for laboratory tests do not fit a specific person. Instead, we must rely on physiological or functional values, which take into account individual variability. This genetic and biochemical individuality can either place us at a high risk of certain diseases or a very low risk. For example, persons lacking a detoxification enzyme called glutathione transferase Ml show an increased risk of developing lung and bladder cancer, especially if they smoke. People with low liver-detoxification capacity due to other enzyme defects also show a high rate of carcinogen-induced...
Vitamin C plays a central role in anti-oxidant and immune defenses against cancer. It helps detoxify carcinogenic food additives (such as nitrates, pesticides, and other chemicals) and heavy metals. Vitamin C may reduce risk of cancer, particularly cancers of the mouth, larynx, esophagus, stomach, rectum, bladder, breast, pancreas, and uterus.3 Heavy metal toxicity. Vitamin C plays an important role in protecting the body from heavy metals. It reduces absorption and speeds up detoxification and excretion of heavy metals.
While these surveys are certainly useful, and help to rule out a number of pre-existing diseases, they do little to evaluate risk to, or metabolic function of, the digestive tract. For example, liver enzymes indicate significant abnormalities of liver-cell function, but will not tell anything about subtle damage or abnormal liver cell detoxification that could lead to later disease, such as an inability of the liver to detoxify various chemicals, both of internal and external origin.
Under some dietary conditions, and it is detoxified primarily to urea in the liver (Reynolds, 1992). Huntington (1989) and Reynolds et al. (1991) reported that the removal of ammonia by the liver did not account for all of the urea nitrogen released, suggesting that non-ammonia nitrogen was also used for the synthesis of urea. These authors also reported that increases in the removal of ammonia by the liver were associated with increases in amino acid extraction. Reynolds (1992) suggested that amino acid nitrogen is needed for the synthesis of aspartate, which contributes one of the two nitrogen atoms in urea. Lobley et al. (1995) postulated that the requirement for aspartate to synthesize urea and detoxify absorbed ammonia may lead to penalties for the use of amino acids for protein synthesis. As a result, an increase in the amount of nitrogen absorbed (nitrogen loading) may decrease the efficiency with which amino acids are used for growth (Lobley et al., 1998). It should be noted...
Recommended doses for L-cysteine are in the range of 500-1500 mg day. If the primary aim of therapy is increasing glutathione levels, cysteine should be supplemented with glu-tamine and selenium. Selenium supports optimum functioning of the glutathione detoxification system5. The glutathione that is oxidized during detoxification reactions is reconverted to active glutathione by enzymes requiring vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and vitamin B12. Thus, riboflavin
The body can use menstruation as a channel for detoxification. As toxicity is channeled out of the lymph for elimination during the monthly cycle, old substances will enter the blood. Because we crave what is in our bloodstream, cravings for toxic foods may surface during the cycle. These cravings appear just before or following a menstrual period - be aware and prepared for this. To get past cravings eat avocados. Avocados are excellent foods to help regulate the female cycle. PMS is essentially a detoxification episode which always has physical, mental, and emotional components. PMS is the result of a toxic, cooked, animal-food diet (especially now with all the hormones fed to farm animals). The cleaner your body is by eating raw plant foods, the less PMS you will experience. After several months to a year of eating raw plant foods, PMS symptoms will disappear.
The metabolism of ammonium into amino acids and amides is the main mechanism of assimilation and detoxification of ammonium. Glutamic acid formation is a port of entry of nitrogen into organic compounds and occurs in the chloroplasts or mitochondria. Ammonium assimilation in root
Antioxidant and detoxification function. Cysteine, alone or as part of glutathione, is a potent antioxidant, protecting against free radical damage.2 Glutathione, working with the enzyme glutathione peroxidase (a selenium-containing enzyme), detoxifies free radicals, drugs, and toxic chemicals. It also recycles oxidized vitamin E and vitamin C, conserving body stores of these antioxidants.3
This outline of genetic changes can be used as a structure for illustrating the chemopreventive actions of dietary components in cancer prevention. Ample evidence exists to demonstrate that bioactive compounds can act in each of these areas. Table 2.2 cites several examples of molecular targets and representative nutritional factors that can act at these sites.2728 The overview presented in this chapter is by no means a comprehensive catalog of all bioactive compounds, nor of all of their defined mechanisms of actions. Note that most compounds have a pleiotropic action that is, they can act at a number of sites in the carcinogenesis pathway. In addition, many different compounds can act on a single molecular target. We outline one example of a nutrient, the active form of vitamin D, 1a,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 , with many different mechanisms of cancer preventive action. The activities of many other compounds are further detailed in later chapters. Note that all of the biochemical and...
Therefore, studies reporting gene-tobacco smoking interactions tend to be large and probably have adequate statistical power to examine single gene-single factor interactions. This is still far from ideal as no single study can yet fully address the complex interactions involving multiple genes and environmental factors. Genes currently under examination span a variety of metabolic pathways, including the obvious ones involved in drug metabolism and detoxification, those involved in lipid traits known to be modified by smoking (Gambier et al., 2006 Goldenberg et al., 2007 Cornelis et al., 2007b Manfredi et al., 2007) as well as others involved in a variety of more remotely connected metabolic functions (Lee et al., 2006 Saijo et al., 2007 Jang et al., 2007 Stephens et al., 2008). In addition, the arrival of genome-wide association studies has allowed the identification of chromosomal regions of interest (North et al., 2007) for which no candidate genes have yet been...
To prevent acidic poisoning from cola (or other acid) consumption, the body uses two strategies. One is to use alkaline blood buffers (for example, sodium bicarbonate16 and sodium phosphate17) to buffer (neutralize) the acid.18 The other strategy is to convert these volatile liquid acids into less-reactive solid acids. However, there were no colas thousands of years ago, so our bodies did not evolve to deal effectively with the onslaught of acids that many people consume today, and there are problems resulting from the body's detoxification strategies.
Much interest has been raised also by the possible activation of xenobiotic enzymes by MRPs. Induction of detoxifying enzymes, either by natural or synthetic substances, is still a promising chemopreventive strategy (Faist and Erbersdobler, 2001). Naturally occurring substances in foods have been shown to serve as antimutagens, which may function as chemical inactivators, enzymatic inducers, scavengers and antioxidants. The modulators can act through enzyme systems by inducing phase-I and phase-II enzymes or by altering the balance of different enzyme activities. Phase-I metabolic transformations include reduction, oxidation and hydrolytic reactions in order to release or induce functional or reactive groups from or into the xenobiotic substances. Phase-II transformations are mostly conjugation reactions of the parent xenobiotics, or phase-I metabolites, with sulphur-containing amino acids or glutathione. The conjugation reactions facilitate transport and hence elimination. Thus the...
Over the last two years, we have measured levels of mercury after injected with the chelating agent D.M.P.S The athletes who had high levels of mercury, tended to have a poor ability to repeat at a high percentage of maximum. The number of reps they could do a t 85 would increase within 8 weeks of following a program to detoxify that toxic metal.
Vegetables and fruits are the cornerstones of a healthy diet. They are rich sources of vitamins, minerals, complex carbohydrates, and fiber. Some, such as peas and corn, are also good sources of protein. Moreover, vegetables and fruits are generally inexpensive, contain no cholesterol, have little or no fat, and are low in calories. A high intake of vegetables, particularly of the Brassica family (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts) can sharply reduce the risk of cancer.10 These vegetables contain compounds that can help the body detoxify and clear potential carcinogens. In addition, fruits and vegetables are rich sources of antioxidant nutrients, such as beta carotene and vitamin C, that may also protect against cancer and heart disease.21,22
There are many reasons for our variable tolerance to poisonous substances, including our ability to detoxify poisons, our antioxidant defenses, strength of our DNA-repair enzymes, degree of absorption of the toxins, differences in our cellular enzymes, age differences, presence of pre-existing diseases, genetic inheritance, exposure to other toxins at the same time, and the strength of our immune system. To complicate matters, there exist many as yet unknown or poorly understood factors.
And especially broccoli, induces phase II enzymes that detoxify carcinogens. Broccoli sprouts are reported to have 10-100 times the cancer-protective activity of mature broccoli plants.29 The activity in the sprouts is largely due to glucoraphanin, a precursor of sulforaphane. The citrus flavonoids, tangeretin and nobiletin, are known to activate the detoxifying P-450 enzyme system and are potent inhibitors of tumor cell growth.30 Limonin and nomilin, the principal limonoids in citrus, occur in high concentrations in grapefruit and orange juice, and partly provide the bitter taste in citrus. These limonoids possess the ability to inhibit tumor formation by stimulating the enzyme glutathione S-transferase.31 The pulp and albedo of an orange and other citrus are rich in glucarates, which significantly reduce the incidence and multiplicity of mammary tumors, and increase tumor latency.32 The oil in orange rind contains substantial amounts of limonene, a terpenoid that possesses...
A few people opt for raw-animal food because of food addiction and an unwillingness to detoxify. They want The Raw-Food Diet without detoxification, but do not understand that something for nothing disobeys the karmic law. They replace cooked-food stimulation with another kind - raw, dead-animal food. Eating raw flesh as food always leads to food obsession. I have seen this repeatedly. Typically, on the raw-animal diet, people become so unbalanced, confused, and filled with negative energy, they go back to cooked food (usually they have been eating it all along) to degrade the karmic energy of eating animal foods.
Light-dependent emission of H2S from leaves can be considerable after exposure to high atmospheric S02 concentrations and is considered as an S02 detoxification mechanism (Sekiya et al., 1982b). However, plants grown in a nonpolluted atmosphere and supplied with sulfur only in the form of sulfate in the soil also release substantial amounts of volatile sulfur compounds through the stomata (Table 4.2). The main component found in this experiment was SOz and its emission increased with the sulfate content in the soil. For oats and rape emissions of volatile sulfur compounds have been shown to occur within 35 days after the onset of growth and found to vary between 0.2
It takes years to heal a diabetic condition, but it can be healed by staying the path. When I was on The Dating Game, I met one of the show producers backstage. We started talking about raw foods. She told me her roommate had diabetes and was just beginning to get interested in raw-food nutrition. I called her roommate and we became fast friends. After about 8 months of detoxification
The feeling of coldness when one begins a Sunfood Diet is typically caused by a thickening of the blood during detoxification episodes this decreases circulation. It is also caused by an increased blood flow to the internal organs, which are finally given a chance to heal, and a corresponding decreased blood flow to the extremities. After you persist through the transition and detox - through the feeling of coldness - you will discover that your resistance to both cold and hot weather will increase by eating raw plant foods.
The development of cancer is a multi-stage process (28). In the initial stage, the genome (that is, the DNA) is damaged as a result of the action of chemical carcinogens, viruses, radiation, replication errors, etc. Much of this damage is oxidative in nature. For example, a potential chemical carcinogen may be converted by the body's detoxification enzymes to a chemical, which reacts with cellular DNA to cause a mutation. While repair mechanisms within the cell remove much of the damage, some can remain in the genome, resulting in a
Initially, when you adopt The Sunfood Diet, you will most likely lose weight as your body detoxifies wastes it has accumulated over a lifetime. This is a necessary process. Don't worry about it, embrace it. First and foremost, allow your body to detoxify. Once the body is significantly detoxified, which may take anywhere from 4 months to 2 years, depending on the toxicity of the body beforehand, then you can gain all the healthy weight you desire. I recommend you do so in the method shown in the previous diagram.
This might mean that the mercury was tightly bound in these patients, preventing its removal by such chelators as DMPS and DMSA. Despite the fact that some ALS patients possess the same mercury levels as those free of the disease, it may be that ALS patients have several contributing factors that make them much more sensitive to mercury. For example, they may have a weakened antioxidant defense network in their motor neurons, genetic differences in metabolism, impaired detoxification mechanisms, nutritionally impaired cellular energy production, lower selenium levels, an altered blood-spinal cord barrier, associated toxins (such as other toxic metals, pesticides and herbicides), low magnesium levels, or different levels of metallothionein in the affected neurons. Metallothioneins, found throughout the body, are low-molecular-weight proteins and polypeptides of extremely high metal and sulfur content they are thought to be necessary for intracellular fixation of the essential trace...
Other biological effects are based on different mechanisms, some of which are still unknown. For instance, ascorbic acid is involved in collagen biosynthesis. However, even though intracellular protein modification of pre-collagen occurs through hydroxylation of proline and lysine, ascorbic acid is not involved as a hydrogen donor here. Also, during degradation of tyrosine, activation of one of the enzymes occurs without involvement of the ascorbic acid dehydroascorbate redox system. Ascorbic acid is involved in the synthesis of bile acids from cholesterol and the synthesis of carnitine from the amino acids lysine and methionine. Neuroendocrine hormones such as gastrin, bombesin, CRH, and TRH are activated by ascorbic acid-dependent amidation. The synthesis of cytochrome P450 in liver microsomes, required for detoxification reactions, is stimulated by ascorbic acid. Its iron absorption enhancing function has been known for a long time just like its role as inhibitor of nitrosamine...
Some rumen bacteria are capable of detoxifying both forms of DHP. Despite these reactions, considerable quantities of mimosine and 3,4-DHP may escape rumen degradation and other derivatives may also be excreted. Ruminants in Australia, the USA and Kenya lack the requisite bacteria involved in the detoxification of the two DHP isomers and, consequently, succumb to their goitrogenic effects if high intakes of Leucaena are maintained over a protracted period of time. On the other hand, in certain other regions where Leucaena is indigenous (Central America) or is naturalized (Hawaii and Indonesia), ruminants possess the full complement of bacteria that are required for DHP degradation, which accounts for the absence of Leucaena toxicity in these countries (Jones, 1985). However, the transfer of DHP-degrading bacteria to cattle in Australia has been achieved with complete success. Inoculated animals grazing Leucaena show markedly higher live-weight gains and serum thyroxine...
Exhaling is more important that inhaling. To fully help detoxify the body, blow out all the air from the bottom of the lungs, then hold your breath. The vacuum produced in the lungs will exert drawing force which will pull more poisons from the blood into the lungs for elimination.
When you reach a stable level of 95 raw, it will be fantastic. You may experience that the body eventually starts to push towards letting go of all cooked foods in the diet, and this is in the natural course of things. After many years on a high-raw, but not all-raw diet, the body becomes more refined and goes into an immediate detox mode as soon as any cooked food is ingested, leaving one functioning at less than optimal capacity. It is time for you to cross the border to sail out into an unknown sea to commit to reaching a 100 raw-food diet. As you'll see, you will not fall off the edge of the world You will have to overcome the stormy seas of negativity and the waves of peer pressure, the perilous storms of accusation and the scurvy-ridden sailors of mediocrity, the glide down the wave-crests into the wave-valleys of detoxification, but afterward it all will appear before you a new land, a land transformed into a paradise, a land explored thus far by only the curious and the brave...
Alcohol can cause widespread cell damage and fat peroxidation in the liver.8 Supplements may help protect against oxidative damage. Vitamin C may help detoxify alcohol9 Deficiency is very common in heavy drinkers and can produce heart and neuromuscular problems The main enzymes that detoxify alcohol are dependent on zinc, thus zinc deficiency impairs abilityto breakdown alcohol, increasing potential
Johnny Lovewisdom taught me the spiritual value of avoiding fats for a selected period of time with his Vitarian Diet. Dr. Lovewisdom himself attempted to completely eliminate fats from his diet by swearing off all avocados, nuts, and seeds (see his book Spiritualizing Dietetics Vitarianism). He eventually ended up including goat's milk (pure fat) in his diet (see Viktoras Kulvinskas' book Life In The 21st Century) - which justifies the conclusion that fats are essential. We have already seen the value of a momentary period of a fatless diet for detoxification. When you strip away all the internal insulation created by fats, after all improper foods have been removed, then you tune directly into the cosmic spiritual energy which pervades all things. This is the Vitarian Diet, which contains few fats, and only fruits and vegetables of a high-water content.
The intrinsic pro-oxidant potential of vitamin C may also contribute to its chemopreventive properties. A low or baseline level of oxidative stress appears to be essential for the cellular transduction signals that lead to the induction or potentiation of some detoxification antioxidant enzyme systems. Antioxidant micronutrients may act as mild pro-oxidants to supply limited amounts of ROS when needed for triggering antioxidant signal transduction. If this is the case, it remains to be clarified when and how the pro-oxidant activity of vitamin C is turned on in the intracellular redox milieu while it is fighting, as an antioxidant, against excess oxidative stress.
The above analysis, focusing on the six essential alterations in cell physiology as defined by Hanahan and Weinberg26 and their modification by nutrients, focuses mainly on the changes within the cancer cells themselves. However, the effects of nutrients on other aspects affecting cancer incidence and progression at the tissue and whole-body levels cannot be ignored. Some of these other factors include effects on inflammation, carcinogen detoxification by xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes, and epigenetic events. 184.108.40.206 Carcinogen Activation Detoxification by Xenobiotic Metabolizing Enzymes Although this discussion has focused on the beneficial roles of certain dietary constituents, we must recognize the role of dietary carcinogens as well. A number of known or suspected dietary carcinogens are present in foods, including myc-otoxins (moldy foods), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocyclic amines (grilled, fried, broiled, or charred meats and fish), N-nitrosoamines (foods...
On top of all this, those destined to get Parkinson's disease seem to possess an inherited weakness in their ability to detoxify toxins, both those formed within the body during metabolism and those ingested or inhaled. A recent study, in which one hundred Parkinson's patients were compared to two hundred matched controls, found that Parkinson's patients had a genetic defect that altered their ability to form conjugating enzymes, a vital method of cellular detoxification,98 and a condition that would make them more susceptible to oxidative stress in the part of the brain causing the disease. Mercury, by increasing free-radical generation (oxidative stress) and poisoning the antioxidant network, would greatly magnify the effects of this inherited weakness.
While fasting, the blood things (recall Lesson 10 Detoxification where we learned how the quality of the blood is formed at the intestinal villi). This allows the thick mucus trapped in the lymph to diffuse out into the blood for elimination. This is the process of diffusion, elements move from areas of great concentration to areas of lesser concentration.
Aspartate salts act as a mineral delivery system to specific cell sites, and the aspartate component is involved in the detoxification of ammonia,49,65-67 which can cause fatigue. In regard to sports fitness applications, histidine alone has not been studied as a supplement for improving athletic outcomes. Carnosine is related metabolically to histidine and histamine. It is a naturally occurring histidine-containing dipeptide present in muscle tissue. Being immunoprotective, carnosine has been shown to detoxify free radical species, protect cell membranes, and act as a buffer against lactic acid and hydrogen ions.106 This is especially important in athletic events where lactic acid buildup (metabolic acidosis) can affect performance by causing fatigue.107 Intracellular buffering agents such as phosphates and histidine-containing peptides may help delay fatigue by buffering hydrogen ions, reducing oxidative damage, and maintaining cell membrane integrity.108-110
Dosage Insoluble in water, it is ineffective if taken as a tea. (Studies show that less than 10 percent of the active ingredient is available in this form.) Use seed extracts standardized to at least 70 percent silymarin (the antihepatotoxic principle). The suggested daily dose provides 200 mg of concentrated extract three times daily in the treatment of liver disease, representing 140 mg of silymarin per capsule (in total, 420 mg daily). You can use one 200 mg dose as part of a cleansing detoxification program. It might have mild laxative effects in some people.
It may seem perverse that the body's own detoxification system creates the ultimate carcinogen, but this needs to be seen in the light of the body's strategy for removing foreign chemicals, particularly insoluble ones. The mechanism involves oxidizing such compounds in order to make them easier to remove in the urine, and although the result is usually benign, sometimes it can result in the formation of a carcinogen. In turn, other detoxification (phase II) enzymes may increase the chemical's solubility further, for example by stimulating reaction with glutathione, thereby removing the carcinogen.
The first day will be one of maximum stress. Pain will, most likely, be intense and your entire body will be struggling to return to normal. As a result of surgery and anesthesia, your immune system will be profoundly suppressed, and will remain so for more than two weeks. Your liver will be stressed from all the medications as well as the anesthesia it has had to detoxify. If your detoxification capacity was low to begin, it will be even worse after surgery. Your evidence-based doctors will not do anything to replace your lost nutrition at this critical point. They will be too busy pumping you full of more medicines. Mind you, most of these medicines are necessary in your situation it's just that your body needs more than what it's getting and, as we have seen, detoxification depends heavily on your nutrition.
Deterioration noun the fact of becoming worse detox noun same as detoxification detoxication noun the process in which toxic compounds in the body are metabolised into ones that can be excreted detoxification noun 1. the process of removing a toxic substance from something or counteracting its toxic effects 2. the process of subjecting yourself to withdrawal from a toxic or addictive substance such as alcohol or drugs
Ask yourself the following question How can I celebrate my life and enjoy the process of detoxification, while letting go of toxicity As soon as your mind comes with the answer, write it down in your journal, and act on it immediately 2. Decide in advance how you will deal with detoxification symptoms. Decide what level of detoxification will be too much for you to handle. Decide now what foods you will use to slow down the detoxification process. Write down your strategy in your journal. 3. In times of a healing crisis, maintain your poise, reread this lesson, and fully understand the physiology of detoxification.
There are health conditions which do not react well to fasting. For instance, a fast is not recommended for diabetics who have taken insulin for more than two years. Those taking medication or recreational drugs should also not fast, until they have detoxified their body and stopped the intake of all chemicals. Otherwise, fasting may cause too much poison to flow out of the lymph fluid into the blood too quickly. Preferably choose to fast when the seasons change or on the full moon that is when the body cleanses the strongest. During each change of seasons, Nature does its house-cleaning by expelling poisons this is why people experience the flu (detoxification) during the seasonal changes. When the moon is full, the tidal energies are pulled, and this lunar position also triggers the body to detoxify.
There is also evidence that selenium may increase removal of mercury from tissues. It is particularly effective within the brain, normally a difficult place to reach during mercury detoxification. Selenium supplementation should be started as soon as mercury toxicity is suspected. In high doses greater than 1,500 ug selenium can have some toxic effects of its own. Recommended doses are based on kilogram weight, so divide your weight, or the weight of your family member, in pounds by 2.2 to get kilograms.
Your own detoxification process will allow you to take on a wider vision of yourself and your potential. When you cleanse yourself inside, you will sure find the outside cleansed and made perfect. You will unfold as if from a dull green bud into a brilliant flower. Imagine a neglected houseplant with brown leaves. If one changes the soil, provides it with the right lighting and water, sends positive energy to it, then it will dramatically change. So too, will an unhealthy person be changed into a health person through detoxification.
For those with psoriasis, 6-10 colon irrigations should be undertaken. After two months of this treatment, one should fast on water for 3 days, then conduct a gall bladder flush (drink 8 ounces of stone-crushed cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil followed by 8 ounces of freshly-squeezed lemon juice) (see Lesson 10 Detoxification). This will help flush the liver and gall bladder.
The assimilation of nitrate is an energy-consuming process, using the equivalent of 15 mol of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) for each mole of nitrate reduced (16). The assimilation of ammonia requires an additional five ATP per mole. In roots, as much as 23 of the respiratory energy may be used in nitrate assimilation compared with 14 for ammonium assimilation (17). However, nitrate can be stored in cells without toxic effects, but ammonium is toxic at even low concentrations and must be metabolized into organic combination. Consequently, ammonium metabolism for detoxification may deplete carbon reserves of plants much more than nitrate accumulation.
Green sprouts include wheatgrass, clover, sunflower greens, barley, radish sprouts, pea shoots, etc. Green sprouts are not as powerful as big green-leafy vegetables such as kale or collards, but they fit into the category of essential chlorophyll foods. Sunflower greens are the best sprouts of all they are the softest and most nourishing for the body. Wheatgrass often comes from weak hybridized seed strains quality counts and one should seed out the best quality seed stock available. Other grass seeds tend to be of a higher quality (kamut, rye, barley) than wheatgrass. Grass juice is an excellent transition and detoxification food (especially for overcoming heavy metal poisoning). Grass juice may be too harsh on a purified body and many long-term raw-foodists (5+ years_ whom I have met rarely drink such juices.
Cooked, densified non-starchy vegetables slow down the absorption of sugar into the blood stream like fats do. I think Arnold Ehret took advantage of this with his low-fat Mucusless Diet Healing System. His system of eating raw fruits and non-starchy vegetables cooked or raw with almost no fats is excellent for detoxification, but deficient in fat in the long term.
This will flush gravel out of the gall bladder and bile ducts which will be pushed out in the stool (usually on the morning of Day 5). The stones will be ovoid in shape and may range in size from smaller than a bell pepper seed to as large as a brazil nut. True stones consist of foreign cholesterol and starch (some stones may simply be saponifieid oil). Most people on a toxic diet have anywhere from 300-1500 stones of various sizes in their gall bladder and bile ducts. This flush dramatically increases liver function and bile flow as the bile ducts are a waste release area for the liver. Once cleared, the liver can detoxify itself and excrete its waste properly. Also, digestion will be enhanced.
Further lowers nutrient absorption from foods. The liver is particularly vulnerable to alcohol - more than three drinks a day causes inflammation and accumulation of fat in the liver. This impairs liver function, reducing the ability to detoxify chemicals and drugs. Because the liver is important for blood sugar control, alcohol-induced liver damage can produce hypoglycemia, leading to fatigue, irritability, and concentration difficulties. Alcohol increases urinary losses of many minerals, including zinc, calcium, and magne-sium.5 Because of these effects, a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and low-fat milk products should be carefully chosen.
By far the greatest variety of parasites afflicting the present population of the Western world comes from animal foods. Almost every variety of commercial meat available is loaded with parasitic worms. Also, parasites are present in tainted water sources. Parasites thrive in an unhealthy body. They feed on excessive toxicity (constipation) in the colon, particularly cooked starch and decaying cooked animal foods. In that way they are somewhat beneficial they help detoxify the colon by breaking down substances the body cannot deal with into waste the body can eliminate. However, when the body becomes so weakened from a toxic lifestyle that the parasites breach the digestive tract and enter the internal organs of the body, major problems arise. Liver flukes, pancreatic flukes, eggs in the brain tissue, eggs in the liver (occasionally mistaken as liver cancer), etc., all have their role in the manifestation of the major diseases.
Ii) Castor bean (Ricinus communis) - Many legume seeds contain a protein fraction which is capable of agglutinating red blood cells. These compounds are referred to as lectins and they vary widely in their degree of specificity to types of red blood cells and also their degree of toxicity. Such legumes must be degraded by heat treatment in order to detoxify them and so enhance their nutritive value. Castor bean was one of the first such legumes to be investigated and a lectin called ricin was isolated which is extremely poisonous. However, the steaming of castor meal for 1 hour will reduce the toxicity of the meal to 1 2000 of its original level. Toxicity is seen as progressive paralysis starting with the legs and progressing to complete prostration. With the exception of blood-stained mucus in the droppings, clinical signs are indistinguishable from those of botulism. A pale swollen mottled liver is often seen with petechial hemorrhages present on the heart and visceral fat.
Here's what I use to treat women with PMS For the first two weeks of their cycle, I put women on a dong quai herbal combination then for the second two weeks, they take a PMS combination. These supplements also contain ingredients that detoxify the liver, which is very important in treating PMS.
Colon hydrotherapy speeds up detoxification. It allows a great amount of toxicity to be flushed out quickly, so we can continue with our daily lives without enduring extreme detoxification symptoms. I recommend beginning The Sunfood Diet and or any healing regime with a series of colonics. Colon hydrotherapy is simple, painless, and discreet. Aside from colon hydrotherapy, you may also speed up the detoxification process by doing enemas coupled with fasting on lemon-water or green-leafy vegetable juice.
Two other amino acids that I use are taurine and cysteine. Taurine is a neuro-inhibitory transmitter that has a calming effect. It also controls heart rate and helps with fat metabolism. Many of the people who have chemical sensitivities and yeast problems (probably 90 percent of the ones I see) have a reduced taurine as well as a reduced cysteine level. Cysteine, like taurine, is an amino acid that helps the body to detoxify. In many people with chemical sensitivities, the detoxification processes in their bodies have broken down due to overload, or deficiencies of various nutrients, or a liver dysfunction. So they aren't able to handle the same kind of toxic load that other people might handle who aren't dealing with the same variables. I use large doses of vitamin C and multi-amino acids.
Low levels of pesticides in the body are hard to detect, but in general the symptoms match those of the modern patient that I see many times each day. The symptoms, plaguing millions of people today, are chronic fatigue, depression, and general malaise. Homeopathy and clinical ecology have had great success in treating this kind of condition. Most of these pesticides have been deposited or absorbed selectively by the nervous system or fatty tissues. The nervous system has a coating over it called the myelin sheath and the brain is covered by a sheath called the dura mater. These have a high fat content and so the pesticides are absorbed like a sponge by them. The liver and kidneys also end up having a much higher concentration of pesticides than other parts of the body because they have to detoxify them. So pesticide exposure tends to exhibit itself in overall weakness as well as in psychological and neurological symptoms.
Glutamine is formed from amidation of glutamic acid (glutamate), and asparagine is formed by amidation of aspartic acid (aspartate). Often, when the external supply of ammonium is high, asparagine, a metabolite unique to plants, will dominate among the amides, as plants respond to conserve carbon in the detoxification of ammonium.
Having traversed the complexity of the gut, AA absorbed into the portal vein flow to the liver where they may be subjected to further metabolism. The liver is equally metabolically active as the gut, accounting for 25 of whole body oxygen consumption, even though the liver represents only 2 of body weight (Huntington and Reynolds, 1987). In dairy cows, up to 2000 1 Ir1 of blood passes through the liver (Reynolds et al., 1988). The liver serves a critical role in maintaining AA homeostasis and in the detoxification of large quantities of ammonia absorbed from the gut. There are three options when AA are presented to the liver (Fig. 19.1). First, AA may passage directly through and become available to peripheral tissues. Second, AA may be extracted for synthesis of proteins, constitutive of liver matrix or exported as plasma proteins. Or, third, AA may be oxidized with the nitro
People are not truly attached to many of the cooked foods they eat. They eat them for flavor or fun. I have found with most people I have worked with that there are usually 5 or 6 cooked foods that they are actually addicted to and have trouble releasing. These usually include bread, baked potatoes, coffee, potato chips, corn chips, tofu, candy (chocolate), cigarettes (not a true food), and or fish. Typically these foods are attached to emotional anchors. When these foods are removed emotional feelings come up to be detoxified out of the body. One may feel uncomfortable for the moment (as these feelings are released), but feel much better in the long-term. (More on this in Lesson 10 Detoxification.)
Raw animal fats are typically saturated, so they are not as strong in their cleansing abilities as monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats, therefore they do not directly help detoxify the body. Animal flesh fats are particularly dangerous because they bring negative energy upon the consumer from the animal's death and they contain stored toxins collected from the environment. Farmed animals eat pesticide and chemical-sprayed foods which end up stored in their fat cells. This gives the consumer a double dose of negativity. The same holds true for fish liver oil, which can contain all the toxins present in the fish. The liver is the detoxification center of the body, through which all the toxins must pass.
Cooked animals and seeds leave residues behind which are difficult for the body to metabolize and detoxify. By eliminating these cooked foods, and increasing your intake of green-leafed vegetables and alkaline fruits (figs, oranges, papayas, etc.), you eliminate the physical basis for the negative self. After you detoxify your body when you become a raw-foodist when at last you reach the point of maximum weight loss when your body has emptied itself of all toxins that is when your outward appearance will alter. You will literally push out your old persona (your false body) and, as it is purged, you will momentarily take on that appearance. Some have called it the alternating faces of detoxification. It is one of the most stunning revelations one can experience. After that you will be a transformed person.
Undergo a brain and body detoxification program, which should include a supervised fast. Now don't attempt to detoxify on your own. You must have holistic physicians or practitioners who are knowledgeable, competent, and experienced in these practices because if you attempt it on your own, you may come up with some upsetting surprises.
Hydrocyanic acid inhibits animal tissue respiration by blocking the enzyme cytochrome-oxidase. HCN is detoxified to produce thiocyanate in the liver which is then excreted via the urine. This detoxification system utilizes sulfur from methionine in the conversion of cyanate to thiocyanate, thus increasing the bird's require produce volatile HCN which is then eliminated during drying. Rate of drying in commercial forced air driers is important as it has been reported that at 80 to 100 C, only 10 to 15 of cyanide is removed compared to 80 to 100 detoxification occurring at 47 to 60 C but with a longer time. Steam pelleting can also assist in the volatization of free HCN. Much of the work on toxicity of tannins has involved purified tannic acid. Legume and cereal tannins are of a condensed type while tannic acid is of a hydrolyzable type. Since there are conflicting reports on the degree of growth depression and the role of methionine in alleviating tannin toxicity, it follows that the...
Mucous congestion is a detoxification of the lungs and sinuses associated with sinusitis, discharges, headaches, earaches, eye pain, and fatigue. Mucus acts to both protect the system by acting as a buffer for the sensitive internal organs and it acts to transport toxins out of the body, typically through the lungs, mouth, and sinuses.
One fairly recent study from Poland found that a complex made of silymarin and lecithin had very powerful anti-atherosclerotic effects in experimental animals, more so than when each was given alone. The supplement complex also improved liver detoxification, normalized lipid metabolism, and corrected histologic changes in the animals' aortas. Further tests are being conducted on this complex.
Once cadmium enters the body, only 1-5 percent is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract in adults, but in newborns absorption is much higher, sometimes as much as 55 percent. Once absorbed, the metal quickly binds to the membranes of red blood cells, and to albumin, where it is quickly removed by the liver and especially the kidney. Not surprisingly then, the kidneys are the principal sites of cadmium toxicity. As with mercury toxicity, metalloth-ioneins are considered to be the principal method of detoxification within the liver, kidneys, and cells.
Eczema is a detoxification (often of drugs or medications) through the skin. Because it can be worsened by eating cooked eggs and cooked fat, especially pasteurized milk and cheese, these foods should be abandoned. If you have eczema (dry skin and eruptions) consider at least 6 colonics initially to allow the body to detoxify through the colon, rather than through the skin.
Detoxification and Weight Loss
Detoxification is something that is very important to the body, but it is something that isn't understood well. Centuries ago, health masters in the East understood the importance of balancing and detoxifying the body. It's something that Western medicine is only beginning to understand.
