KATHY: I think I am very lucky, as I don't have a desire to eat a lot of sweet things. My downfall is fat and salt. So, when I'm cleansing and it comes to desserts, I just don't bother. If I do crave something sweet, I will just have a piece of fruit - figs, mangoes, pink lady apples, peaches are all favourites, and when all else fails, the trusty banana will always do it for me.

JAN: Unfortunately, I have a sweet tooth and it's when I find myself craving sugary foods on a daily basis that I decide to detox to bring my body back into balance. I enjoy our dessert recipes whether detoxing or not because they rely on the natural sweetness of fruit with very little additional sweetening.

If you have a sweet tooth, one of the hardest things to avoid during a detox is dessert. Sugar is definitely off the List when detoxing, however, it is still possible to enjoy naturally sweet foods made into delightful combinations. We recommend that you don't have a dessert as such each day, but save them for two to three times per week. Instead of a 'proper' dessert, have a lovely piece of fresh fruit with some natural soy yoghurt if you're looking for extras after dinner. For dessert nights, try one of our ten great desserts - just the ticket when you're entertaining or enjoying a good dinner in.

If you are out to dinner and are not sure what you can eat on the menu, ask the waiter if you can have some fresh fruit. Many restaurants will accommodate such a simple request, providing they actually serve fresh fruit with desserts on the menu. If they serve a cheese plate with dried fruit and nuts, you could ask for that - without the cheese of course. Otherwise, it may be best to abstain and enjoy one of your own desserts as part of another meal at home.

We use natural rice syrup, honey and maple syrup as the main sweeteners in our dessert recipes. However, we also use sweet fresh fruit or dried fruit to achieve the most satisfying flavour.
