Vegetarian diets

A vegetarian diet is often considered a healthier alternative to what many cancer survivors ate before their diagnosis. Studies have shown that diets high in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds - and lower in meats - are cancer protective.

There is no evidence, however, that a vegetarian diet provides any more protection than a mostly plant-based diet with small amounts of meat. If you choose a vegetarian meal plan, be sure to eat a variety of foods, including many different vegetables and fruits, whole grains and protein alternatives to meat (such as beans, eggs, tofu, small amounts of cheese and fish).
